In-Home ABA Therapy in Georgia: 4 Simple Steps

The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:

Assessment

Meet with your BCBA to discuss your child's goals. They will observe behaviors and assess strengths and challenges to create a personalized plan.

Development

Secondly, your BCBA will create a treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs and family goals. They will coordinate with the team and your insurance provider to secure the most effective treatment.

Therapy

Therapy begins! You and your child will work with the therapy team to implement the goals and plans created with your BCBA. Regular collaboration ensures progress, and you'll also learn the strategies your child is practicing.

Monitoring

We are always monitoring your child's growth. Regular data review allows us to adjust their plan as they grow, ensuring their needs are always met.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Absolutely! For children over five, we can provide behavioral support in school if permitted. Many private schools allow ABA therapy during school hours, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address behavioral challenges and support your child’s progress.
  2. If your child needs additional support, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for an out-of-pocket fee. Contact our intake coordinator for more information.

Yes, but coverage varies by insurance plan. Medicaid generally covers ABA therapy, while commercial plans often require copays.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) focuses on building meaningful skills that enhance an individual’s quality of life. It teaches new behaviors, reinforces positive actions, and reduces those that may interfere with daily activities. Using evidence-based strategies, ABA tailors interventions to each person’s unique needs. While widely used for autism, its principles also support education, mental health, and behavior management.

Yes, we offer social skills groups every evening for clients over the age of 5 who are receiving ABA therapy in Georgia. Additionally, children in our Early STEPS early intervention program receive ABA that incorporates a blend of one-on-one therapy, group play, and group activities tailored to their abilities. For our older clients, we provide opportunities to meet with peers in the community to practice age-appropriate skills in a fun and natural setting within their local area.

Every child has different needs, but the average recommendation is about 15 hours/week for school-aged children. Clients who participate in our Early STEPS program receive an average of 30 hours/week. The minimum is 10 hours/week.

A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a highly trained professional responsible for creating and supervising individualized treatment plans for clients. RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) and BTs (Behavior Technicians) work directly with clients to implement these plans under the BCBA’s guidance. A BT is typically in the process of obtaining their RBT certification and is not yet registered.

Parents are essential in reinforcing ABA techniques beyond therapy sessions. Your BCBA will provide training to help you implement effective strategies at home. Consistently applying these methods in daily routines strengthens learning and promotes lasting behavioral progress.

ABA therapy may be a great fit if your child has autism and struggles with problem behaviors, daily tasks, or learning new skills. Contact our team to learn more!
