4 Easy Steps for Effective In-Home Therapy in Reisterstown
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
In this step, you'll sit down with your BCBA to discuss your child’s goals. The BCBA will observe your child's behavior and assess their strengths and areas for improvement.
Development
Your BCBA will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child’s and family’s goals. They will collaborate with the team and your insurance provider to ensure the recommended treatment is both effective and well-supported.
Therapy
Therapy starts! You and your child will work closely with the therapy team on the goals outlined with the BCBA. Regular collaboration will ensure progress is made. You’ll also learn the strategies your child is working on to support their development.
Monitoring
We keep track of your child's progress regularly. By reviewing the data, we make changes to their plan to make sure it continues to meet their growing needs.

Do You Provide School-Based Support?
- We do! For children over the age of 5, we offer behavioral support in schools that permit it. Many private schools allow ABA therapy, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address any behavioral challenges your child may encounter.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for an out-of-pocket cost. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Is ABA Therapy Covered by Insurance?
Coverage varies depending on your plan. Medicaid typically covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans may require copays. For detailed information, please contact your insurance provider or our intake coordinator.

How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Recommended Each Week?
The recommended amount of ABA therapy varies depending on each child’s needs. For school-aged children, around 15 hours per week is typical, while children in our Early STEPS program usually receive about 30 hours per week. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required to ensure effective progress.
What’s the Difference Between a BCBA, RBT, and BT?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a master’s-level professional who designs, supervises, and adjusts treatment plans to ensure therapy is effective. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified practitioner who implements ABA strategies directly with clients, under the supervision of a BCBA. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar tasks but may not yet hold certification. They assist in therapy sessions and follow treatment plans with BCBA guidance.
