4 Easy Steps to In-Home ABA Therapy in Annapolis
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
Schedule a consultation with your BCBA to discuss your child's goals. The BCBA will observe your child's behavior and assess their strengths and areas for growth.
Development
Your BCBA will create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your child's needs and family goals. They will also collaborate with your team and insurance provider to ensure the most effective treatment is prescribed.
Therapy
Therapy starts! You and your child will work closely with the therapy team on the goals and plans established with the BCBA. You’ll have regular check-ins to ensure progress is being made. Additionally, you'll learn the strategies your child is working on to support their development.
Monitoring
Your child's progress is closely tracked, with data reviewed regularly to ensure the therapy plan evolves with their needs. Adjustments are made as necessary to support continuous growth and development.

Got Questions? Let’s Clear Them Up.
Do You Offer ABA Support in Schools?
- Yes, we provide school-based behavioral support for children over age 5 in schools that allow ABA therapy. While many private schools permit this, most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address behavioral challenges.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for an extra fee. Contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Does Insurance Cover ABA Therapy?
Coverage for ABA therapy depends on your insurance plan. Medicaid generally covers ABA services, while commercial insurance plans may include copayments. We recommend reaching out to your provider for specific details on your coverage.
What Are the Objectives of ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) aims to help individuals acquire valuable skills that enhance their quality of life. The focus is on teaching new behaviors, reinforcing positive actions, and minimizing disruptive behaviors that impact daily activities. Using proven, evidence-based techniques, ABA creates customized interventions tailored to each person’s unique needs. While ABA is often used to support individuals with autism, its principles are also effective in education, mental health, and behavior management.
Is ABA Therapy Available in Group Settings?
Yes! We offer social skills groups each evening for children over five who receive ABA therapy. Our Early STEPS program provides a blend of individual therapy, group play, and activities designed to meet each child’s needs. Older clients also have opportunities to engage with peers in the community, practicing age-appropriate skills in a relaxed, natural environment.
How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Needed Each Week?
The recommended weekly hours for ABA therapy vary based on each child’s needs. School-aged children typically receive around 15 hours per week, while those in the Early STEPS program may receive up to 30 hours. To ensure meaningful progress, a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
What Do BCBA, RBT, and BT Roles Involve?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a master’s-level professional who designs, supervises, and adjusts treatment plans to ensure effective therapy. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified professional who works directly with clients, implementing ABA strategies under the supervision of a BCBA. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar duties to an RBT but may not yet be certified. They assist in therapy sessions and follow treatment plans under the guidance of a BCBA.
