In-Home ABA Therapy: Helping Children in Perry Hall Succeed

Building Skills in Real-World Settings

Skills are best developed in the environments where they naturally occur. In familiar settings, children learn and apply essential skills, such as communication, motor activities, and social interactions. This approach leads to more meaningful progress and lasting results.

Convenient Therapy at Home

With therapy happening right at home, there’s no need to travel to clinics. This saves time and makes it easier for busy families to schedule sessions without the hassle.

Stronger Family Involvement

Caregivers receive practical strategies to support their child’s development in everyday routines. These strategies help promote lasting growth that extends beyond therapy sessions.

Insurance Plans We Work With

STEPS Behavioral Health accepts most major insurance plans. Contact us with any questions about coverage in Maryland—we’re happy to help you explore your best options.

The 4-Step Process for In-Home Aba Therapy in Perry Hall

The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:

Assessment

Start by meeting with your BCBA (Board-Certified Behavior Analyst) to discuss your child’s goals. The BCBA will observe your child’s behavior, assess their skills, and identify any challenges they may face.

Development

The second step is for your BCBA (Board-Certified Behavior Analyst) to create a treatment plan tailored to your child’s and family’s goals. They will collaborate with the therapy team and insurance provider to ensure the most effective treatment is prescribed for your child’s needs.

Therapy

Therapy begins! You and your child will work closely with the therapy team on the goals developed with the BCBA. Regular check-ins will ensure progress is being made. You will also learn the strategies your child is using to support their development.

Monitoring

Lastly, we continuously monitor your child’s progress. As part of our routine, we review the data and adjust the plan to meet your child’s evolving needs, ensuring ongoing growth and success.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. For children over 5, we offer school-based behavioral support where permitted. While many private schools accommodate ABA therapy, most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and school conferences to provide guidance on behavioral strategies.
  2. For families seeking additional assistance, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for a separate fee. Contact our intake coordinator for more details on how we can help.

Insurance coverage depends on your plan. Medicaid typically covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance may have copays or specific coverage limits. To understand your benefits, contact your insurance provider.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) helps individuals develop valuable skills that enhance their quality of life. It focuses on teaching new, positive behaviors, reinforcing desired actions, and reducing behaviors that disrupt daily life. By using evidence-based techniques, ABA tailors interventions to meet each individual’s unique needs. While ABA is often used for autism, its principles can also be applied in education, mental health, and behavior management, offering broad support for many areas of development.
Yes! We offer social skills groups every evening for children over five who are receiving ABA therapy. Our Early STEPS program combines individual therapy with group play and activities tailored to each child’s abilities. Additionally, older clients have the opportunity to meet peers in the community, where they can practice age-appropriate skills in a fun, natural setting. This combination helps reinforce learning and promotes social development in real-world environments.

The number of ABA therapy hours depends on each child’s individual needs. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required for meaningful progress. School-aged children typically receive around 15 hours per week, while those in our Early STEPS program participate in up to 30 hours.

A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a master’s-level professional who designs, supervises, and adjusts ABA treatment plans to ensure effective progress. They assess client needs, develop strategies, and oversee therapy implementation. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified professional who works directly with clients, applying ABA techniques under BCBA supervision. They implement behavior plans, track progress, and provide hands-on support. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar tasks to an RBT but may not yet be certified. They assist in therapy sessions, follow treatment plans, and support clients under the direction of a BCBA.
Parents and caregivers play an essential role in reinforcing ABA strategies outside of therapy sessions. Your BCBA will provide training to help you apply techniques that support your child’s progress. By consistently using these strategies in daily routines, you can strengthen learning and foster long-lasting behavioral growth.
ABA therapy is effective for children with autism who face challenges with problem behaviors, daily tasks, or learning new skills. If your child needs assistance in these areas, ABA therapy could be a great option. Reach out to our team to discover how we can support your child’s growth and success.
