In-Home ABA Therapy in Baltimore County:
4 Simple Steps
The importance of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
Meet with your BCBA to discuss your child’s goals. They will observe behaviors and assess strengths and areas for growth.
Development
First, your BCBA designs a treatment plan that fits your child’s needs and family goals. Then, they coordinate with the team and work with your insurance provider to ensure access to the most effective therapy.
Therapy
Therapy begins! You and your child will actively work with the therapy team to implement the goals and plans developed with your BCBA. Through ongoing collaboration, you’ll track progress and adjust as needed. Plus, you’ll learn the same strategies your child is practicing to reinforce their growth at home.
Monitoring
We continuously monitor your child’s progress. By regularly reviewing data, we adjust their plan to support their evolving needs and ensure continued growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Offer School-Based Support?
- Yes! For children over the age of 5, we can provide behavioral support in schools that permit it. Many private schools allow ABA therapy, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to assist with any behavioral challenges your child may face.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services at an out-of-pocket cost. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Does Insurance Cover ABA Therapy?
Yes, but coverage depends on your specific plan. Medicaid generally covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans may require copays.
What Is the Purpose of ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) aims to help individuals build meaningful skills that enhance their daily lives. This approach focuses on teaching positive behaviors, reinforcing progress, and reducing challenges that may interfere with independence. Through evidence-based strategies, ABA tailors interventions to each person’s unique needs. While widely used for autism support, its methods also benefit education, mental health, and overall behavior management.
Is ABA Therapy Available in a Group Setting?
Yes! We offer evening social skills groups for children over five who receive ABA therapy. Our Early STEPS program blends individual therapy with group play and activities tailored to each child’s abilities. Additionally, older clients engage with peers in the community, practicing age-appropriate skills in real-world settings. These group-based opportunities help reinforce social development in a structured yet natural environment.
How Many Weekly ABA Hours Are Recommended?
The recommended hours of ABA therapy vary based on each child’s needs. School-aged children typically receive around 15 hours per week, while those in our Early STEPS program average 30 hours per week. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
BCBA, RBT, and BT: What’s the Difference?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a master’s-level professional responsible for developing, overseeing, and adjusting treatment plans to ensure effective therapy. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified practitioner who works directly with clients, implementing ABA strategies under a BCBA’s supervision. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs a similar role to an RBT but may not yet be certified. They assist in therapy sessions and follow treatment plans under BCBA guidance.
