What to Expect from In-Home ABA
Therapy in Baltimore City
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
Meet with your BCBA to discuss your goals for your child. During this evaluation, the BCBA will observe behaviors, identify strengths, and assess challenges to create a personalized therapy plan.
Development
Your BCBA will create a customized treatment plan tailored to your child's needs and your family's goals. They will work with the therapy team and your insurance provider to ensure your child receives the most effective support.
Therapy
Therapy starts with you and your child working closely with the therapy team on the goals set with your BCBA. Regular collaboration ensures progress, and you’ll also learn the strategies your child is practicing to support their development.
Monitoring
We continuously track your child’s progress to ensure they’re reaching their goals. By reviewing data regularly, we make necessary adjustments to their plan, adapting to their evolving needs for the best possible outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Your Team Support My Child at School?
- Absolutely! For children over the age of five, we can provide behavioral support in school if allowed. Most private schools permit ABA therapy during school hours, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address behavioral challenges and support your child’s needs.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services at an out-of-pocket cost. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Will Insurance Cover ABA Therapy?
Yes, but coverage varies by plan. Medicaid typically covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans often require copays.
What Is the Goal of ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) helps individuals develop meaningful skills that improve their quality of life. It focuses on teaching new behaviors, reinforcing positive actions, and reducing behaviors that interfere with daily life. Using evidence-based techniques, ABA creates personalized interventions to support each person’s needs. While commonly used for autism, its principles also apply to education, mental health, and behavior management.
Can ABA Therapy Be Provided in a Group Setting?
Yes! We offer social skills groups every evening for children over five who receive ABA therapy. Our early intervention program, Early STEPS, combines individual therapy, group play, and activities tailored to each child’s abilities. Older clients also have opportunities to meet peers in the community, practicing age-appropriate skills in a fun, natural setting.
How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Recommended Per Week?
Every child’s needs are different, but the average recommendation for school-aged children is around 15 hours per week. Clients in our Early STEPS program typically receive 30 hours per week. The minimum recommended is 10 hours per week.
What Are the Differences Between a BCBA, RBT, and BT?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a highly trained professional with a master’s degree who designs and oversees ABA therapy programs. They assess behavior, create treatment plans, and monitor progress. A RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified professional who works directly with clients, implementing the therapy plan under the supervision of a BCBA. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar duties to an RBT but may not yet be certified. They provide hands-on support to help clients develop skills and achieve therapy goals.
How Can I Help My Child Succeed in ABA Therapy at Home?
Parents play a key role in reinforcing ABA strategies outside of therapy sessions. Your BCBA will offer training to help you apply techniques that support your child’s progress. By using these strategies consistently in daily routines, you can strengthen learning and encourage lasting behavioral growth.
How Can I Tell if My Child Would Benefit from ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy can help children with autism who struggle with problem behaviors, daily tasks, or learning new skills. If your child needs support in these areas, ABA may be a great fit. Contact our team to learn more about how we can help!
