4 Steps to In-Home ABA Therapy in Carroll County
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
Meet with your BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) to discuss your child’s goals and needs. They will observe behavior, assess skills, and identify areas for growth.
Development
Your BCBA will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs and family goals. They will collaborate with the team and your insurance provider to ensure access to the most effective therapy.
Therapy
Therapy officially starts! You and your child will work closely with the therapy team to implement the goals set with your BCBA. Regular communication ensures steady progress, and you’ll also learn the strategies your child is practicing.
Monitoring
We continuously track your child’s progress, reviewing data regularly to ensure their therapy plan evolves with their needs. Adjustments are made to support ongoing growth and development.

Is School-Based Support Available?
- Yes! For children over the age of 5, we provide behavioral support in schools that allow it. Many private schools permit ABA therapy, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address behavioral challenges your child may face.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services at an out-of-pocket cost. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Is ABA Therapy Covered by Insurance?
Yes, but coverage varies based on your specific plan. Medicaid typically covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans may require copays or have other coverage limitations. For more details, contact your insurance provider.
What is ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) is a science-based approach that focuses on improving learning and behavior. It helps individuals with autism develop essential life skills by reinforcing positive behaviors and reducing those that interfere with progress. Therapy is personalized to each child’s needs and implemented through structured sessions, real-life applications, and consistent support.
Can ABA Therapy Take Place in a Group Setting?
How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Needed Each Week?
The number of recommended ABA therapy hours depends on each child’s individual needs. School-aged children typically receive around 15 hours per week, while those enrolled in our Early STEPS program average 30 hours per week. To ensure meaningful progress, a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
