4 Steps to In-Home ABA Therapy in Prince George’s County
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
First, connect with your BCBA to discuss your child's goals and needs. They will observe behaviors, evaluate strengths, and identify areas for development.
Development
Next, your BCBA will design a personalized treatment plan based on your child’s needs and family goals. They will work closely with the team and your insurance provider to ensure the most effective therapy is in place.
Therapy
Therapy begins! You and your child will actively collaborate with the therapy team to implement the goals set with the BCBA. Ongoing check-ins will track progress, and you'll gain valuable strategies to support your child's development.
Monitoring
We closely monitor your child's progress to ensure they receive the best possible support. Regular data reviews help us refine their treatment plan as their needs change, fostering continuous growth and development.

Frequently Asked Questions About ABA Therapy
Is ABA Support Available in Schools?
- Yes! We provide school-based ABA support for children over the age of 5 in schools that permit it. Many private schools allow ABA therapy, while most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address any behavioral challenges your child may encounter.
- For families seeking additional assistance, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for an out-of-pocket fee. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Will My Insurance Pay for ABA Therapy?
Yes, but coverage depends on your specific insurance plan. Medicaid generally covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans may have copays, coverage limits, or prior authorization requirements. For more details, contact your insurance provider.

How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Recommended Per Week?
The recommended hours of ABA therapy vary based on each child’s unique needs. School-aged children typically receive around 15 hours per week, while those in our Early STEPS program average 30 hours per week. To support meaningful progress, a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
How Do BCBA, RBT, and BT Roles Differ?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) holds a master’s degree and is responsible for developing, overseeing, and adjusting treatment plans to ensure effective therapy.
An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is a certified professional who works directly with clients, implementing ABA strategies under the supervision of a BCBA.
A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar duties to an RBT but may not yet be certified. They assist in therapy sessions and follow treatment plans under BCBA supervision.
