In-Home ABA Therapy: Helping Children in Randallstown Thrive

Developing Skills in a Natural Environment

Skills are best developed in environments where they naturally occur. In familiar settings, children learn and apply skills such as communication, motor activities, and social interactions. This approach leads to meaningful progress and lasting results.

Convenient Therapy at Home

Say goodbye to clinic visits—therapy takes place right at home, saving time and making it more convenient for busy families. This allows you to easily fit therapy into your schedule while ensuring your child’s progress.

Strong Family Involvement

Caregivers receive hands-on strategies to support their child's development in daily routines. These approaches encourage lasting progress that continues after therapy sessions, helping your child thrive in real-life settings.

Our Accepted Insurance Providers

STEPS Behavioral Health works with most major insurance plans. Contact us for any questions regarding coverage in Maryland—we're here to help you explore the best options available.

The 4-Step Process for In-Home Therapy in Randallstown

The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:

Assessment

The first step is to meet with your BCBA (Board-Certified Behavior Analyst) to discuss your child’s goals. Your BCBA will observe your child’s behavior, evaluate their skills, and identify any challenges they may encounter.

Development

The second step is for your BCBA (Board-Certified Behavior Analyst) to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your child’s and family’s goals. They will coordinate with the therapy team and insurance provider to ensure the most effective treatment is recommended for your child’s needs.

Therapy

The next step is to begin therapy! You and your child will work with the therapy team on the goals and plans created with the BCBA. You’ll check in regularly to track progress, and you’ll also learn the strategies your child is working on to support their development.

Monitoring

Lastly, we keep a close eye on your child’s progress! We regularly check the data and adjust your child’s plan to make sure it’s meeting their changing needs and helping them continue to grow.

Answers to Your ABA Therapy Questions

  1. Yes, we provide school-based ABA support for children over the age of 5 in schools that allow ABA therapy. Many private schools accept this service, although most public schools do not. Our BCBAs are available to attend IEP meetings and conferences to address any behavioral challenges your child may face.
  2. If further assistance is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health also offers advocacy services for an additional fee. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Insurance coverage for ABA therapy depends on your specific plan. Medicaid generally covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance plans may require copayments. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm the details of your coverage.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) helps individuals develop important skills that improve their quality of life. ABA focuses on teaching positive behaviors, reinforcing desired actions, and reducing disruptive behaviors. By using evidence-based techniques, ABA tailors interventions to meet the unique needs of each individual. While ABA is often used for autism, its principles are also effective in education, mental health, and behavior management.
Absolutely! We offer social skills groups every evening for children over five who are receiving ABA therapy. Our Early STEPS program combines individual therapy with group play and activities, tailored to each child’s unique needs. For older children, we provide opportunities to engage with peers in community settings, allowing them to practice age-appropriate skills in a natural, real-world environment.
The recommended number of ABA therapy hours depends on your child’s individual needs. School-aged children usually receive around 15 hours per week, while children in the Early STEPS program typically get about 30 hours per week. To ensure effective progress, a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
In ABA therapy, each role serves a unique purpose. A BCBA (Board-Certified Behavior Analyst) is responsible for designing and overseeing individualized treatment plans. They supervise the therapy process and make adjustments as needed. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) works directly with the child, implementing the treatment plan under the BCBA’s supervision. A BT (Behavior Technician) also works with the child, providing direct support but may not have the same formal certification as an RBT. All roles work together to ensure effective therapy and progress.
To help support ABA therapy at home, begin by practicing the strategies your BCBA teaches during therapy sessions. These techniques will be personalized to fit your child’s needs. By integrating them into daily routines, you can boost your child’s progress and encourage long-term behavioral improvements.
ABA therapy is highly effective for children with autism who struggle with problem behaviors, daily tasks, or learning new skills. If your child needs assistance in these areas, ABA therapy may be the ideal solution. Contact our team to learn more about how we can help your child thrive.
