Your Path to In-Home ABA Therapy in Timonium
The role of parents and caregivers in the therapy process:
Assessment
Begin by meeting with your BCBA to discuss your child’s needs and goals. They will assess behaviors, identify strengths, and determine areas for growth.
Development
Your BCBA will develop a customized therapy plan tailored to your child’s needs and family goals. They’ll work closely with the team and your insurance provider to ensure the best approach is in place.
Therapy
Therapy begins! You and your child will work alongside the therapy team to implement the goals set with the BCBA. Regular check-ins will monitor progress, and you’ll learn useful strategies to support your child’s growth.
Monitoring
We continuously monitor your child’s progress, regularly reviewing data to adjust their plan and support their evolving needs.

Answers to Your ABA Therapy Questions
Do You Provide School-Based Support?
- We provide behavioral support in schools for children over the age of 5, where permitted. While many private schools welcome ABA therapy, most public schools do not. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences to help address behavioral challenges your child may experience.
- For additional support, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services for a fee. Please contact our intake coordinator for more details.
Is ABA Therapy Covered by Insurance?
Insurance coverage for ABA therapy varies by plan. Medicaid typically covers ABA therapy, while commercial insurance may include copayments. For specific details, we recommend reaching out to your insurance provider.
What Does ABA Therapy Aim to Achieve?
Is ABA Therapy Available in a Group Setting?
How Many Hours of ABA Therapy Are Recommended Weekly?
Each child has different needs, but school-aged children typically receive around 15 hours of ABA therapy per week. Our Early STEPS program provides about 30 hours weekly. The minimum recommended amount is 10 hours per week.
What’s the Difference Between a BCBA, RBT, and BT?
A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is a highly trained professional with a graduate degree who designs and oversees ABA therapy programs. They assess behavior, create treatment plans, and ensure therapy is effective. An RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) is certified to implement ABA therapy under a BCBA’s supervision. They work directly with clients, using strategies designed by the BCBA. A BT (Behavior Technician) performs similar tasks to an RBT but may not have completed certification. They still provide direct support and follow the BCBA’s guidance in therapy sessions.

Communication has improved overall, manding and prompts, mornings used to be extremely tiring because my daughter wasn’t able to communicate, now learning simple yes/no open/close “lets go” she is able to communicate, before she would just have tantrums, STEPS changed her morning routine and taken away so much stress, bcba is great with communication!
