Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started with ABA services in Englewood, CO?
Getting started with ABA services begins with a call to our intake team to complete initial paperwork and schedule an assessment with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). During this first visit, which typically lasts 1–2 hours, the BCBA meets with your child and family to better understand their needs and goals.
Following the assessment, a personalized treatment plan is created and reviewed with you before being submitted to your insurance provider. At the same time, we begin identifying the right therapy team for your child. Once insurance approval is received, services can begin. From start to finish, the process typically takes a few months.
Which age groups do you work with?
We work with children and young adults ages 2 through 21, with programs tailored to each stage of development.
Can you help support my child at school in Englewood?
- Yes, for children over the age of 5, we can provide behavioral support in school settings when permitted by the school. Many private schools allow us to accompany your child to provide ABA therapy, while public schools may have restrictions. Our BCBAs can also attend IEP meetings and conferences with families to help address any behavioral challenges your child may be experiencing.
- If additional support is needed, STEPS Behavioral Health offers advocacy services at an out-of-pocket cost. Please contact our intake coordinator for more information.
Will my insurance cover ABA therapy?
Insurance coverage for ABA therapy varies by plan. Medicaid often provides coverage, while many commercial plans may include copays or other out-of-pocket costs. Our team can help you review your benefits and guide you through the process.
How does ABA therapy help children?
ABA therapy focuses on helping children develop meaningful skills that improve their everyday lives. This includes building communication, social, and daily living skills, while also reducing behaviors that may interfere with learning or independence. Each program is tailored to your child’s unique needs using proven, evidence-based strategies.
Do you offer ABA therapy in group settings?
Yes, group-based ABA therapy is available. Along with one-on-one therapy, we offer social skills groups for children ages 5 and older who are receiving ABA services. Our early intervention program, Early STEPS, also combines individual therapy with group play and structured activities based on each child’s developmental level.
For older children and teens in Englewood, we provide opportunities to practice social and life skills with peers in real-world settings, helping build confidence in a supportive and engaging environment.
What is ABA therapy?
ABA therapy, or Applied Behavior Analysis, is a research-based approach focused on how children learn and behave. It helps children with autism build new skills and improve everyday functioning by encouraging positive behaviors and reducing those that may interfere with learning.
Is ABA Therapy Considered Ethical?
Yes. ABA therapy is considered ethical when provided by qualified professionals who follow established standards of care. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) adhere to a professional code of ethics that emphasizes each child’s dignity, individualized support, and collaboration with families.
Today’s ABA focuses on positive reinforcement and evidence-based approaches to help children develop meaningful skills and increase independence, while respecting their individual needs and goals.
How many hours of ABA therapy does my child need each week?
The number of hours recommended depends on your child’s individual needs. Many school-aged children receive around 15 hours of ABA therapy per week, while younger children in our Early STEPS program may receive closer to 30 hours per week. Most children benefit from at least 10 hours per week to support steady progress.
Who is involved in ABA therapy?
Your child’s ABA therapy team includes several trained professionals working together. A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) develops and oversees the treatment plan, ensuring it is tailored to your child’s needs. RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians) and BTs (Behavior Technicians) work directly with your child during sessions, helping implement the plan and build skills.
RBTs have completed certification requirements, while BTs are typically in the process of becoming certified.
How can I help reinforce ABA therapy at home?
Your child’s BCBA will work with you through parent training to show you how to apply ABA strategies at home. This helps reinforce new skills and create consistency across different environments.
Is ABA therapy a good fit for my child?
If your child is experiencing challenges with behavior, communication, daily routines, or learning new skills, ABA therapy may be a helpful option. It is designed to support children in building independence and developing skills that improve everyday life.
If you’re not sure where to start, our team is here to provide guidance and help you explore the next steps.
