Frequently Asked Questions
How does the ABA therapy intake and assessment process work?
Getting started begins with a call to our intake specialist, who will walk you through the necessary paperwork and schedule an initial appointment with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This first meeting, typically lasting one to two hours, is usually arranged within 45 days of completed paperwork and takes place with both the child and their guardian present.
Following the appointment, the BCBA develops a personalized treatment plan, reviews it with the family to ensure it feels like the right fit, and submits it to the insurance provider for approval. During this time, your child’s treatment team is being identified. Once insurance approval is confirmed, staffing is arranged and services can begin. From start to finish, the entire process typically takes around four months.
What age range does ABA therapy serve?
Can ABA therapy be provided in a school setting?
- In some situations, yes. For children aged 5 and older, ABA services may be available in school environments where permitted. Private schools tend to offer greater flexibility, while public schools may have restrictions on outside providers. Our BCBAs are also available to attend IEP meetings and school conferences to help guide planning and support your child’s educational journey.
- For families who need extra guidance navigating the school system, we also provide advocacy services on an out-of-pocket basis — ensuring you have the support you need every step of the way.
Does insurance cover ABA therapy?
What does ABA therapy aim to achieve?
Does ABA therapy include group settings?
Absolutely. We offer social skills groups for children over the age of 5 who are receiving ABA therapy, with sessions available every night of the week. Children enrolled in our early intervention program, Early STEPS, participate in a blend of individual therapy, group play, and group activities tailored to their abilities.
For our older clients, we create opportunities to connect with peers out in the community — practicing age-appropriate skills in real-world environments that are engaging, fun, and meaningful.
How would you describe ABA therapy?
Is ABA therapy an ethical approach?
Yes — when practiced in accordance with established professional standards, ABA therapy is both ethical and effective. ABA professionals are guided by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) Ethics Code, which places a strong emphasis on client dignity, individualized care, and open collaboration with families.
Research consistently demonstrates that ABA helps individuals build valuable skills and improve their overall quality of life. Ethical ABA practice is centered on respecting each person’s unique needs and goals, using positive reinforcement and evidence-based strategies to foster growth and independence. Ongoing oversight, thorough training, and continuous evaluation ensure these standards are upheld at every level of care.
